5 Must-Have Amenities for New York Renters

September 27,2021 | By Centennial Properties

The list of amenities apartment complexes can offer their tenants is expansive. When it comes to building amenities, you could have a bicycle room, a pool, a green roof, and even an on-site nursery. In your unit, you could have a walk-in closet, a fireplace, wood flooring, and a terrace.

All of these would be incredible of course, but property buildings can't offer every amenity. So, what do New York renters care about the most when they're looking for a new space to call home? At Centennial Properties NY, we believe these five amenities are the most important to our tenants.

A pet-friendly environment

Can you really call an apartment home if you aren't allowed to have your cat and dog with you? New York has always been a pet haven, but adoption rates soared during the pandemic as more people spent time indoors and wanted a companion to spend time with. And if you've ever had a pet, you know they're non-negotiable when it comes to finding a place to live.

Smart home technology

Technology is disrupting the rental market in a lot of ways, and tenants are benefitting. This tech has become so ingrained into the lives of renters that no one wants to go from an apartment with smart tech to one without. There are a number of ways that property companies can use smart technology in their buildings. For example, we use Amazon Key to support safe, convenient package delivery (we wrote about this amenity on our blog) for our tenants. We also use Carson, a 24/7 virtual doorman service, to give our renters easy access to our buildings, as well as more control over who can come in and out of their apartments. Not a lot of New York buildings have these technologies yet, so we're excited to be able to offer this smart home technology to our renters.

In-unit washer and dryer

The point of amenities is to enhance the quality of life of tenants, and part of that is by making their lives more convenient. In-unit washers and dryers might not seem like a crazy offering, but this can be a life-saver for most renters. Having to lug clothing to and from a laundromat in the middle of Manhattan takes a lot of time and energy — and becomes even more burdensome in bad weather. Washers and dryers located in a building are better than a laundromat, but still aren't ideal.

Outdoor space

In Manhattan, there are a lot of wonderful areas to go to and spend time outdoors, whether that's at a nearby park or the patio of a local restaurant. But it's always nice to have a dedicated outdoor space where you live. Some people love it for their pets, while others love to spend a few hours outside in good weather reading or drawing.

No-fee listings

At Centennial Properties NY, we work on a no-fee basis with our renters. This means that renters are not responsible for paying a broker fee when they sign a lease with us. It's part of our commitment to helping people find the best apartment for their needs without any of the 'surprise' elements that can come with renting in a big city. We're all about transparency.

From the Lower East Side to Harlem to SoHo, you can search Manhattan neighborhoods to find our available listings online. We want to help you find your next New York City apartment to call home.
